Creating a social platform to
bring likeminded people together
Rightsoft developed the Likeminds mobile application and its ecosystem as an in-house project, collaborating with Misto for the product design.
Misto approached RightSoft with a comprehensive social platform project, seeking a partnership where Misto would handle product design, and Rightsoft would deliver the implementation and infrastructure. The project aimed to provide users with a platform to meet like-minded individuals, create events, and create meaningful connections within their local community.
We were tasked with creating a suite of applications for this ecosystem:
- Cross-Platform mobile application to connect users with shared interests
- Backend application to facilitate the admin portal, provide an API layer for the mobile app, and integrating external services
- Admin portal to manage all aspects of the application such as users, content, and app configurations
- Commercial website to explain and advertise the app
- Infrastructure to ensure security, scalability, and reliability, supporting high user loads without compromising performance
Since Likeminds is aimed at the general public, we made sure the user experience was streamlined and intuitive, allowing users to easily navigate and enjoy the app without complications.
The Likeminds project involved the development of a large-scale ecosystem, consisting of multiple applications utilising different technologies that needed to work seamlessly together. To manage this complexity, we organised four dedicated teams, each focusing on a specific area: mobile development, back-end, infrastructure, and the admin panel.
To ensure smooth progress in this multi-component project spanning different tech stacks, we implemented strategic project planning. This approach allowed us to align feature completion with dependencies across teams, effectively preventing delays and development bottlenecks.
Given that Likeminds is a public-facing application, we prioritised security in every aspect of the project. The mobile app, backend, and infrastructure were all built with a focus on safeguarding user data and ensuring a secure environment
Understanding the challenges of social platforms, where content moderation, user conflicts, and privacy issues are sensitive and critical, we designed the application to allow users to customise their privacy settings, and manage their preferences easily. Additionally, we provided admins with the tools to manage and address content-related issues promptly.
We also developed an extensive logging system to diagnose and troubleshoot potential issues and user feedback efficiently.
Initially, the project had an extensive scope, including features like online payment integration, live support, and scheduled events with payment options. As new features continued to be introduced, the project timeline was at risk. To address this, we adopted a proactive management approach, restructuring the feature rollout and updating the project plan. Rather than delivering a fully-featured product in one release, we opted for an iterative release process, where features were introduced and released gradually. This approach allowed us to incorporate user feedback, analyse usage data, and conduct A/B testing, ensuring that new features were added thoughtfully and without disrupting the project’s schedule, budget, or overall quality.
We also faced a challenge with the initial decision to use a third-party chat component, which ultimately did not meet our needs. After a brief attempt to enhance this component, we decided to develop a custom chat solution. This choice provided us with greater flexibility, security, and scalability. Through this experience, we demonstrated our ability to swiftly assess challenges, adapt our approach, and take decisive action—even when it involves implementing major features like a custom-built chat component
Likeminds is designed to be engaging and enjoyable, and the development process provided us with valuable insights from efficient project management to implementing an app ecosystem spanning multiple tech stack.
